Major sports showdown for Cape Town

Cape Town is in for an action packed long weekend of rugby and football at the Mother City’s iconic stadiums. The City is encouraging residents to come out in their numbers to support the local teams. 

Cape Town City gets the ball rolling on Saturday afternoon in a DSTV Premiership game against Kaizer Chiefs at Athlone Stadium. 

City is currently fifth on the PSL table and looking to strengthen its chances of a place in the CAF competition positions with a win on Saturday. 

Gates for the game open at 12:30 for a 15:30 kick off. 

'We would like to encourage spectators to arrive at the stadium early on Saturday to ensure proper flow into the stadium and avoid having spectators stuck outside the arena at kick-off. We would also like to remind fans that there will be no sale of tickets at the stadium and no fans will be allowed into the Athlone precinct without presenting a match ticket. We are deploying our safety and security personnel to work with SAPS and stadium security to ensure we make this a safe and smooth experience for spectators and we would like to encourage everyone to abide by the protocols,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

Tickets for the game are available at various TicketPro outlets across the city.

Residents and motorists are advised of the following temporary road closures for game day:

  • Cross Boulevard and Klipfontein Road (12:00 – 19:00)
  • Cross Boulevard and Springbok Street (12:00 – 19:00)
  • Hickory Street and Springbok Street (12:00 – 19:00)
  • Hickory Street and Clover Crescent (12:00 – 19:00)

No vehicles will be allowed to park or stop on Cross Boulevard in front of the stadium, Lower Klipfontein Road, Hickory Street between Clover and Springbok streets as well as Clover Crescent.

DHL Stormers vs Ulster

Later on Saturday, the DHL Stormers will be going for a second straight win in the United Rugby Championship when they meet Irish side Ulster at DHL Stadium.

Gates for the game open two hours before kick-off which is at 19:15.

Ticket holders are encouraged to utilise the park and ride system where they park their vehicles in the city centre and take the free MyCiTi shuttle to the stadium.

Cape Town Spurs vs Moroka Swallows

On Sunday, Cape Town Spurs will go up against Moroka Swallows at Athlone Stadium. 

Kick-off is at 15:30 with gates opening at 14:30.

Bayhill Premier Cup Finals

The Bayhill Finals will bring down the curtain on an exciting long weekend of sporting action at the Athlone Stadium on Monday, 1 April 2024.

After five days of action, featuring 32 under-19 teams, the tournament's final day will see six clubs contesting for three trophies, including the rights to be crowned Premier Cup champions for 2024.

A R50 ticket will give spectators front row seats to three games from some of the best under-19 sides at the tournament.
